Necropolis for PC, PS4 and XONE is a combination of a third-person action game with elements of the roguelike genre. This is the second major work by the independent American studio Harebrained Schemes, founded in 2011 and debuting in 2013 as a classic representative of the cRPG genre – Shadowrun Returns.

The action of this title is set in a fantasy setting, in which you can see science-fiction elements. The events take place in a cavernous magical complex with constantly changing shapes. The player takes on the role of a daredevil, whose task is to explore the corners of this place and get out of it, defeating the ruling beings – the mad archmage Abraxis and the “intelligence” created by him, which feeds on the souls of the unfortunates lured into her domain. The game is accompanied by a lot of humor, and the authors of the film The Cabin in the Woods were the source of inspiration in constructing the world (especially its bestiary).

As for the gameplay model, we are dealing with a full-blooded action game, with a dynamic and demanding combat system based on timing and animations. We have to approach the clashes carefully and learn the behavior patterns of the opponents, and then use the gaps in their defense by launching combinations of light and strong attacks. Our chances are increased by brewing magic potions from collected components, as well as by looking for well-hidden mystical books that provide us with spells and runes.

The world is procedurally generated. Interestingly, we can observe it not only at each subsequent start of the game, but also during the game – during the game, we sometimes hit points that allow us to randomly change locations. In addition, the developers have created a living ecosystem in which various creatures fight each other – this can be used by the hero to his advantage, for example by luring creatures that are enemies to each other.

Necropolis for PC, PS4 and XONE is characterized by three-dimensional graphics designed in an unusual way. The creators focused on dark colors and models with a relatively small number of polygons combined with a world full of strange shapes and unusual structures.
