Valhalla Hills is an economic strategy. The production was developed by the employees of the Funatics studio, the authors of the Cultures series,and in many ways is the spiritual heir of this popular brand years ago. In addition, the chief designer was Thomas Häuser, the man who played the same role in the development of The Settlers II .

Story
The plot is about a Viking tribe who spent their lives plundering Europe. After their death, they go to Asgard, but to their surprise they find the gates to Valhalla closed with four triggers. It turns out that the cause of this state of affairs is the conflict between Odin and his son Leko, who spectacularly failed the deity exam. The upset father named him the god of builders, and then banished him and the souls of the dead Vikings back to Earth. During the game, the role of Odin’s exiled son is taken by players and must help their subordinates return to Valhalla.

Gameplay
We start the game at the foot of a mighty mountain and our goal is to open a portal through which the Vikings will go to the promised underworld – we can do it by defeating or bribing the guards. First, however, it is necessary to ensure the survival of the Vikings, because the world around them is inhospitable and full of threats. We have to provide them with food and protect them from wild beasts and monsters (including skeletons, ice dwarves and golems). Achieving all of this requires building a healthy economy that provides our subjects with the necessary raw materials. In the game, we do not give direct orders to our subordinates. Instead, each Viking has its own AI module that shapes its behavior. The player has to influence his charges indirectly by constructing specific buildings and encouraging them to perform specific activities.
